Preston Burns, Houston Criminal Defense Attorney

Preston Burns is a criminal defense attorney based in Houston, Texas. Preston has over ten years of experience trying the most serious and complex criminal cases in Texas. Preston expertly handles criminal cases from the investigative phase all the way through trial, drawing from years of experience with every facet of the criminal justice system. Preston is a native Houstonian and former Chief Felony prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office in Houston, Texas.

After graduating from Washington & Lee University School of Law, Preston began his legal career at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. As an Assistant District Attorney, he prosecuted a wide variety of felonies and misdemeanors and tried more than twenty jury trials as lead counsel. Preston spent several years assigned to the prestigious Crimes Against Children Division, where he handled hundreds of child sexual abuse cases. Preston was ultimately promoted to be the Chief prosecutor of a felony District Court, where he handled a docket of over 2,000 felony cases and supervised a team of junior prosecutors.

Before founding the Burns Law Firm, Preston handled civil litigation matters and practiced regularly in federal courts across Texas. Preston has represented everyone from individuals to large, national corporations.

Preston is licensed to practice law in the state courts of Texas, California, and the District of Columbia and is also admitted to practice in a number of federal courts, including the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas and the Northern, Central, and Eastern Districts of California.
